RJC Dance is so proud of all the Youth Provision members who have danced with us over the years. To celebrate their achievements, while at RJC Dance and beyond, we're sharing a series of Alumni Interviews to cast the light onto them. In the first of this series, we speak to Melli Matthews, who was with RJC Dance Youth Provision from 2003 – 2013.

At what age did you join RJC Dance Youth Provision and what age are you now?

I joined RJC Dance Youth Provision at the age of 8 and I am now 26 years old. I was a part of RJC Dance Youth Provision for 10yrs

How would you describe your time at RJC Dance Youth Provision?

My time at RJC Dance Youth Provision was very varied. We did a lot of different things and got to perform across the country and abroad doing different styles of dance. RJC Dance is was one of the reasons that I later decided to go into musical theatre and Jazz.

What is your favourite memory from your time with us?

The Youth Exchange in Sweden 2010 and the Youth Exchange in France 2011.

Greatest Achievement

Performing at Harewood house in front of the Mayor and other important people.

Where are you now?

I mainly go to auditions in Jazz and musical theatre but I also act in TV commercials, music videos and do some modelling on the side. I have even danced in Mamma Mia 2!

What words of inspiration can you provide for the young people who want to join a participatory dance organisation and or go into the Arts and Culture Industry?

Do it 100% if it’s something that’s calling you and explore it.
