RJC Dance is so proud to celebrate our Youth Provision alumna and Organisation Assistant 2019/20 Dominique Odain-Hamilton as she embarks on her modelling journey with JD Sports. Here Dominique shares her story.
"I started working for JD at the age of 20 as a sales assistant, to pay my way through university. I loved working on the tills as it made my day go faster, I could talk to people about the latest trainers.
I worked for JD up until the age of 25, when I regrettably had to move on as I had planned to save for a move to Canada, I had three jobs and had to cut them down to two. Unfortunately due to the pandemic my trip to Canada was very short lived. I was over there for a month and had to go back to the UK due to the uncertainty of employment in my chosen field of the arts. I returned to the UK without a job but still wanted to do something creative that I enjoyed and I could share with others.I've always loved taking photographs, trainers, fashion and experimenting with different hair styles. I set up a modelling page on Instagram in July 2020 and slowly started to build a page that purely focused on taking pictures that I like of myself. Then I purposely followed models I liked too and added people they follow and people they tagged in their posts. I came across multiple post with a name, all the posts had really positive messages so I clicked on one and the lady was a model, turned agent. Straight away I thought that's amazing, added her, and a couple of days after she direct messaged me saying she loved my look. From there I applied for her agency and was signed in Nov 2020. From that point I have taken it very seriously nearly every week I book to do test shoots with different photographers and collaborate with stylist make up artists, so that I can keep presenting potential clients with my product, me. I love it because I get to be creative."
