In a month when GCSE and A Level results dominate the headlines, we like to celebrate all of the achievements of our RJC Dance Youth Provision alumni and young people. To us, it doesn't matter what you pursue, so long as you do so with passion and commitment. It's people like Cara Kelly who show just where that passion and commitment can take you, whether on a traditional education route, or a road a bit less well travelled.
Cara started with Youth Provision in 2014 after taking part in our summer dance camp. Attracted to RJC Dance Youth Provision by the energy of the dance routines and the nice people here, she was just 12 when she joined Shahck Out Saturday.
Outside RJC Dance, Cara is now studying with Appris Training Centre to do her Level 4 HNC in Mechanical Engineering. This is alongside her role at ATB Morely, a global supplier of electric motors. Appris recently awarded Cara with the 'Learner of the Year' award on her course. Cara's tutor, Brian Hamilton, comments: "I have had the pleasure to know this young person for three years. From the first year to this final year, her nature, attitude, commitment, and standard of work has never changed. She has always given her best and consistently produced work of the highest standard."
We're so proud of Cara and what she is achieving, and look forward to seeing her in our Adult Community Classes soon. For Cara, RJC Dance Youth Provision helped form the person she is today, as she explains: "I would describe my experience as really positive, and one that massively boosted my confidence not only in dance but in my school life too."
For any other young person considering their options for study or work, we hope they find inspiration from what Cara has achieved.
