RJC Dance is proud to introduce a very special project which will premiere at our 2021 Christmas Show. The Boys Production Project 2021 aims to re-engage our male young people from RJC Dance Youth Provision, who became inactive or disengaged due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We have created a high-quality production team which brings together Black British freelance artists, RJC Dance Youth Provision alumni and our young people on this project, to create a groundbreaking piece of work.
Started in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement and the Leeds ‘Lives not Knives’ initiative, this project is a reflection on today's youth culture by those same young people. What's more, it gives them a platform to share their voices, experiences, thoughts and feelings, expressed through a variety of mediums.
Through their participation in the project, our young people are learning skills in dance, choreography, music, design, spoken/written word and technology. Being teamed up with freelance artists and industry specialists gives them unprecendented access to expertise and inspiration which is motivating the group even further. Conversely, the project also offers continued professional development for our artists and new work for audiences.
Please enjoy the gallery of images taken from our rehearsals, and and introduction to our members in the short video below. We will share a performance from the Boys Production Project 2021 here as soon as it is available. We look forward to seeing you at the RJC Dance Christmas Show for its premiere!
