Carnival, dance and engineering came together as RJC Dance Youth Provision group Shahck Out Boyz and Shahck Out Youth Dance member Yanique performed at Leeds Night Night 2026, with costumes designed and created by University of Leeds Mechanical Engineering Department and High Esteem Designs.
Astralis ‘Of the Stars’, reimagined Greek mythology through movement, music and light. Celestial warriors and scorpions became part of a spectacle exploring our fascination with the night sky and the connections between creativity, nature and technology.
We were so proud that RJC Dance alumni, Owen Jeffers, Luke Tyson and Angel Foster, helped to design the costumes in collaboration with High Esteem Carnival Designs.
Members of Shahck Out Boyz performed alongside Yanique, Shahck Out Youth Dance member, and Owen, bringing their energy and commitment to the collaboration.
The wider creative team included Nillanthie Morton, Briony Thomas, and technical teams from the University of Leeds’ Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences and School of Design. Together, the project combined artistic and technical skills to bring the illuminated costumes to life.
Thank you to the University of Leeds, High Esteem Carnival Designs, Owen, Luke, Angel, Nillanthie, our performers and everyone involved in making the collaboration possible. We’re proud to see our community contributing both on stage and behind the scenes.
