Tutor and Choreographer Nillanthie Morton delivered after-school sessions throughout 2025 at Meanwood C of E Primary School in Leeds.

Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 took part in weekly dance workshops, developing their confidence, musicality and dance ability.

They worked on a Soca Cheer dance performance that they then performed at the end of term for their school peers, teachers, family and friends.

Tutor Shahada Nantaba Sekajja led Afro-fusion dance workshops at Kerr Mackie School in Leeds in July.

180 pupils across years 1, 2 and 3 got the chance to learn some African dance moves, developing their rhythm and energy.

They learnt a full routine in just 45 minutes and got to perform to their teachers and school friends.

RJC Dance Tutor and Choreographer, Nillanthie Morton, alongside our Project Coordinator and Tutor, Kiran Kumar, had the pleasure of delivering a morning of Carnival workshops at Meanwood C of E Primary School in Leeds.

They worked with over 85 young people across years 4, 5 and 6 who had a blast learning all about the history and culture of West Indian Carnival, trying on vibrant Carnival costumes and performing an energetic Carnival choreography.

They were so good they performed to their peers in year 2 and 3!

Kerr Mackie Primary school in Leeds invited us to teach Carnival dance workshops to their pupils as part of their Carnival history and celebration week.

RJC Dance tutor Tricia Arthur-Stubbs led vibrant and educational workshops for the school pupils, teaching them all about the history of Carnival and the celebrations that make up Leeds West Indian Carnival.

They learnt a Carnival dance routine to Soca music which inspired them to create their own costumes and host their own school Carnival, with a parade and performance!
