RJC Dance & Mango Arts ‘BANYAN’ Carnival troupe becomes first recipient of The Arthur France Legacy Trophy – LWIC Band of the Year, alongside being crowned Best Troupe on Stage and Best Troupe on Road.

What an incredible Leeds West Indian Carnival 2025!

The energy, the momentum and the excitement were unstoppable as we took our 100+ strong, troupe to the road, the final instalment of our sustainable, intergenerational carnival trilogy, following NATROBEAT 2023 and AZUL 2024.

With the sun beaming overhead, ‘BANYAN’ brought the rainforest to the road and stage, a stunning array of vibrant colours and positive spirit, promoting the beauty of the rainforest and the importance of conservation. Over 100,000 spectators lined the streets of Chapeltown and Harehills, coming together to celebrate heritage, unity and culture. The atmosphere was electric.

Before we took to the road, BBC Look North and ITV Calendar News joined us at our home, the Mandela Centre, shining a spotlight on the creativity and commitment of the Mango Arts creative team, highlighting the hard work that takes place behind-the-scenes and capturing the final preparations of our troupe members.

We are so grateful to everyone who made ‘BANYAN’ possible. From our Youth Provision members, Adult Community Class members, volunteers, staff, Mango Arts creative team and of course the amazing spectators who brought the energy right back to us.

We are beyond honoured to become the first recipient of The Arthur France Legacy Trophy – LWIC Band of the Year, alongside being crowned as Best Troupe on Stage and Best Troupe on Road.

A huge thank you to Leeds West Indian Carnival for another fantastic celebration and to our investors, Arts Council England, Leeds City Council and University of Leeds.
